Premium Bamboo Biochar now available
“biochar fixes carbon”
We have been making and using biochar since 2010 made mainly from our bamboo waste. The char is passed through a hammer mill for a fine particle size which maximizes surface area and makes it easier to mix with soil, growing media or animal feedstock. We sell it by the litre rather than by weight because the weight varies depending on the water content. Airborne biochar is hazardous to breathe so we keep it damp at all times.
Bamboo is an excellent feedstock for producing biochar due to its unique properties. Biochar made from bamboo has numerous benefits for soil health, such as permanently increasing soil carbon and sequestering carbon from the environment. It also absorbs and retains nutrients, making fertilizer inputs slow-release, while retaining water and reducing the amount of water needed to maintain healthy plants and microbial life. Additionally, bamboo biochar has a higher surface area compared to most other biochar feedstocks, creating a habitat for beneficial soil microbial communities. To learn more about these benefits, we recommend further reading on the subject
We supply it mainly locally because transport costs are prohibitive. We handle it in 60L bins which are not full to avoid spillage and counted as 50L of biochar. They are relatively easy to lift and move. For gardeners picking up bring you own bin or container, one bin easily fits into two feedbags. For farmers we sell bulk lots 500L+ at a reduced cost. The bins can be loaded into bulka bags.
Particle size is very fine to about .5mm max
Raw Bamboo Biochar which you can charge yourself in any number of ways including - adding urine, manures, adding to compost, animal bedding etc. Can also be used for filtration. Local sales only, bring your own container $1 per litre

I have added some TLUD photos to my Flickr account. There are quick selection of photos of my various TLUDs since I started with small tin cans a while back and the bigger drum BBQ versions that I have been working on.
